Katz Biotech AG introduces itself

Katz Biotech AG (http://www.katzbiotech.de/) is a well-known company in the area of biological crop protection. The business purpose includes the production and sales of special insects and mites for the biological crop protection, plant protection product test, contract research, the production and marketing of mites - and insects – ingredients as well as insects as protein rich source for livestock and pets. Since February 2018, the new permanent establishment Katz Biotech AG - Insectentechnologiecenter in Berlin concentrates the development in the area of applied insect biotechnology at a new location.

Company history

1992 founded by Dr. Peter Katz as PK Nützlingszuchten in Welzheim. The company was merged with Katz Biotech Services (KBS) in 1997, specialized in customer service and production of beneficials. In the year 2000 the Flora Nützlinge (Hangelsberg) was taken over and a new production site was founded. On the 22th October 2002 the Katz Biotech AG with the headquarter in Baruth/Mark was founded and within the year 2003 all three companies, PK Nützlingszuchten, KBS and Flora Nützlinge were merged together to the Katz Biotech AG. In the end of 2003 the new production site in Baruth/Mark was put into operation.

Three years later, the Hermetia Baruth GmbH (HBG) (www.hermetia.de) was founded and takes over the production of the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) as protein rich source for livestock and pets. With a new production site inside the Katz Biotech company area, the HBG produces fat and proteins based on insects on an industrial scale in ton quantities.

Since February 2018, the new permanent establishment Katz Biotech AG - Insektentechnologiecenter in Berlin concentrates the development in the area of applied insect biotechnology at a new location. In the future, this center will tap into the enormous scientific -, technical - and economic potential of the usage of insects as source of diverse applications.
